The plating index is a figure we calculate based upon the copper density and distribution on the outer layers.

If the plating index is less than 0.40 than this will result in plating problems during production.

On the other hand, a value below 0.40 may affect the quality of the plating and the reliability of the finished PCB.

Any areas on your PCB that are marked in blue will risk being under-plated.

Whereas any areas that are marked in red are at risk of  being over-plated or in some cases even “burned”.
